The Christ Church, owing its heritage to the British tea grower in Old Munnar, is where guests from Britain, who are the third or fourth era relatives of the grower, land to discover the existence their predecessors drove in a distant land.
The present CSI church, worked in 1910, is all around protected. It was built utilizing unpleasant cut stones in Gothic style. The recolored glasses on the sides of the congregation delineate the holy people and Biblical characters. It has various remembrance metal plaques with the names of conspicuous grower recorded on them.
One plaque peruses, In memory of Lee William Alexander, who revered here till Ju1y 1925, kicked the bucket on January 4, 1944.
The history of the church is linked to the missionaries who arrived here. The first to be covered was youthful Ilianor Knight, spouse of Henry Knight, apparently a teacher, and who is accepted to have passed on of intestinal sickness in 1899. The congregation was worked in memory of her before a little slope where she was covered, later making it a selective graveyard for British grower. Before the congregation was developed, there was a burial ground at the rear of the present structure where numerous Britishers were let go. History records that crafted by the congregation was finished and devoted on April 16, 1911. An in-house distribution of Tata-Finlay Ltd “Hundred Years of Tea Planting,” says that the congregation gave asylum to numerous during the substantial floods in Munnar in 1924. It was the primary spot individuals went after asylum all things considered on a slope and approach the then fundamental town.
